99 Eddie Engine knocking
I'm having a problem with my engine knocking really hard, when ideling and when I accelerate to about 1.5k rpm to 2000 rpm, it really knocks real hard. Has anyone else had this problem? I thought it might be the fuel filter, so I swapped that out. No luck. Its in the delaer now, but they said its gonna be at least a week before they can look at it. Any help would be appreciated !!!

Bad news. It's called "piston slap" and it's a big problem with the 5.4. I understand that about 1 in 100 engines develop the problem, but Ford is apparently very aware and handling it by replacing the engines. I have heard that 97 and 98's are getting remanufactured engines, and 99 and 2000's are getting brand new ones. If you search the Web, you'll find all kinds of references to it and everyones horror stories. Good luck.
