4.6 crankshaft compatabilty
I was wondering if ford used the 8 bolt crankshaft (on the flywheel side) in a 1997 F150 I think 6 bolt was only in cars am i right im thinking about fixin up my 4.6 with a forged crate short block so i need to know

Thanks for the reply but it not what im lookin for. what else is differnt about an f150 v/s mustang gt 4.6liter will the intake change out is it the same wireing harness i know the heads would but the crank has got me realy confused 6 bolt or 8 bolt flywheel because i would like to keep my transmission

Ok on the valve cover is a bar code wich contain the engine code engine number and the build date the engine codes are REP and WEP . Rep have an 6 bolt flywheel and WEP has a 8 bolt flywheel.

Up grading your short block will not mean you need a new tranny even if the crankshaft is the wrong bolt pattern you would just need a new correct flywheel. In the grand sceam of things that would be cheap compared to the 2500 to 4500 your thinking of spending on that mustang short block.
