Proud (sometimes) owner of a 94 f-150 5.0 F.I w/E4od tranny. Owned it for 3 years. recently it has started an intermittent no start/ stall problem. I did a tune up on it( plugs, wires, cap, rotor), Replaced the coil (got a low reading on it with a multi-meter), and ECM. When I turn the key, if the check engine light stays on after the initial few seconds, it will not start. If it goes out, it starts, but stutters for a while. managed to get a code out of it when it wouldn't start and it dealt with no power to the ecm/spout. Checked all the grounds I could find and all connections seem good. Not real familiar with the Electronic ignition/ Fuel systems. Hard to diagnose due to it only seems to do this when I am not home. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
A friend of mine had the same thing happen with his Mustang, which I'm told is the same ignition. He replaced the Control Module and it fixed the problem for awhile. Strangely, he said that it would temporarily fix the problem for a short time, until the started using Dilectric grease (spelling?) on the plug. This solved his problem all together :P
Ford control modules need to have a good and solid connection or they start acting funny. I had to polish all my connection due to hard to see corrosion coatings. Add some good dielectric grease and all issues went away. I used a fingernail emery board to get into all connectors.
