Back then I used both gas and Arc.

What do you use and what would you recommend?

If electric, I would want a 110 volt system as any heavy or structural work will be done by a certified welder.

I have slapped lead in the past, but was never as good with gas welds as with the old rattle box Lincoln.

I want to get the welder now so I can practice before I start grinding and cutting out rust.

Purchase a mig welder. Brand choice will be up to you Miller, lincoln hoboart to name a few. Eastwoods look like they have some good deals as well. Be sure to get a unit set up for gas because it makes a much cleaner weld than the flux core.

I have a Miller autoset 140 110v and its been awesome for bodywork and small stuff. I went your route and got a certified welder for my mustang II suspention. It comes with two presets for thin sheetmetal and wire thickness being used. Welding Supplies, Tools and Equipment : Welding Mart has a online layaway thats how i got mine.

I had to learn welding to do the rust repair and body mods on my 56. I bought a Lincoln Handy MIG. I love it. I changed to .030 wire and that stopped the wire feed jams I occasionally got. I also added a tool belt to it so I would always have everything I need with me.

I have been lusting after a used Miller that’s for sale locally, for the last week, I just wanted to make sure it’s what I can Use.

Glad to see that this site is still attracting the young ones,lol. Hope no one beats you to the punch on that Miller. Post some pix of your 60 when you get the chance, you'll notice we like them.
