I just passed 60,000 miles on my truck. It is an xlt, 4x4, 4.6, 17" wheels, class 3 hitch, front/rear ac, cd changer, power most stuff. I had a problem when I purchased a transmission filter kit at my local auto parts. I told them the specs as listed above and they gave me the listed kit. The kit they gave me has a 20 bolt pan gasket with a huge filter. My transmission has a 14 bolt pan and a smaller filter. They gave me a filter kit for a mustang transmission and everything worked fine. My manual says that the 4.6 has a 4r70w trans and the 5.4 has a e4od. The parts guy says I have an aode. Is the 4r70w the same as an aode? Or do I have a transmission that is not as listed in my manual or the auto parts computers (and why)?
Also, my dash warning lights and the 4 weel drive lights and solenoid randomly flash on all at once. The battery light flashes at above 3500 rpm, and the airbag light flashes a 5-2 code then stays on. It is in the shop today for evaluation of these electrical things.
Other than the cd changer being replaced, these are the first problems of any type in 60,000 miles. The truck has run very nicely and I get 14-16 mpg. no matter how I drive. Depending how the next 30,000 or so miles go, I will surely buy another. Not convinced that I want an Excursion yet.
