Hi, I have a 2000 f-150 6 cyl and i'm on my 3rd starter... starts once and then just clicks brought back and they said the starter is no good (burned up)?
Is there anything that could cause me to keep ruining starters? any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Gary
Oil from a leak will destroy the starter. Also if your solenoid is sticking and sending power to the starter while the truck is running, it will overheat it and burn it up.
Insist they test a replacment before you leave the store or go to another vendor.
One start does not burn up a starter.
You could hear anything going on that is not a normal sound when starting the first time.
Is it the correct part for the application?
Look at the flywheel for signs of contact with the side of the wheel anyplace but the teeth and for any broken teeth..
If there is side contact, the starter needs a shim to space it out far enough to clear but should not have to be done.
Good luck.
