Many autoparts stores carry 6to 4 pin adapters, have towed vehicles alot, even towed a fullsize with my explorer, 10 miles home on gravel with a towbar, do not recomend! Take it slow you'll be ok with dolly.

I was kind of hoping to avoid getting the 6 to 4 adapter, but if the 4 pins are standard these days, I may as well.

I think I'm going to have to skip the dolly and get the trailer, not just for the brakes, but for the width as well. The dolly has 75" width, but the F-150 has a door to door width of 79".

Guess the brakes won't be so bad either.

U haul may give you problems renting a trailer. I tried to rent one to pull the wifes explorer sport home when i got it and they said it was to heavy to use on their trailers. So i went to the next place and told them that i was going to be towing a mustang. Got the trailer and towed the explorer home on it anyways.

Yeah, I've already figured that out. I poked around on their website and when I get to Uhaul, I'm just gonna tell them I'm towing a Ford Ranger, or some other light weight vehicle.

A shortbox 1/2 ton with stock sized tires will fit fine on a U Haul trailer or dolly. If the truck is a long bed the trailer won't be long enough. Also if it has oversized tires (like the 31s you have) the trailer or dolly won't be wide enough. I had a 78 long box with 31s and tried this a few years ago. Also U Haul makes two trailer lengths. I know the longer one will work but you may want to measure to make sure that it would fit if you got a short one.

I ended up getting a tow bar from Harbor Freight. I can't remember how much I paid but it was comparable to a days trailer rental. I was able to use two of the bumper bolts on the top holes in the brackets and then just drilled the bumper for the lowers ones (my bumper wasn't mint so I didn't mind the extra holes).

The truck pulled down the highway straight and true, almost like a trailer. The only problem was that I was pulling it with my buddy's 1/2 ton reg cab, short box Dodge. It was way too heavy for a short wheelbase truck. We almost died more than once on the 600 mile trip from Tampa to Charlotte. We ended up going about 45-50 the whole way and it took two days.

So for a short trip like yours, keeping your speeds under 45, your Bronco should be Okay. Just don't loss your focus for a second. That's all it takes. I would say a tow bar is your best option. If I was in a jam, and had to make a trip like yours, I would do it but there is no way in hell I would ever pull that much weight with a short wheelbase truck 600 miles again!

Go to the UHAUL website it had nothing to do with weight. Uhaul will not rent to anyone who will be towing with or on with a Ford Explorer includes Sport Trac it has been like this for years since the lawsuits and finger pointing BS over bad tires and deaths.
