If you can access the bottom bolts/nuts cant you just cut them off and lift up the truck bed? rusty bolts are a pain in the knuckles! Good Luck
It is gonna be kind of hard to use a sawzall I think, because the bolt heads are on the inside of the frame, and I can't get to them because of the gas tanks, and if I was gonna cut them off on top of the frame, I don't think there is enough room under there to work with a sawzall.
bummer, thats where I thought the hacksaw blade alone w/ some tape wrapped around it(for something to grip on) would work IF you could get a hand in there? If you could loosen the bolts a little, lift the bed a little and saw the bolt from the top of the frame maybe? but who knows what your gonna find, just ideas man!!! hope it works out for ya!
Ok, so do I torch off the nut, or the bolt between the frame and bed?
The nut, simply cut the 5 nuts off from underneath, but as I said before do not attempt to torch the left front nut if the gas tank is still in the truck, make sure you wear safety glasses and watch for hot melting metal that is going to fall all over you, , also make sure you watch that electrical harness running down the left frame rail, probably better to unplug everything and pull it completely out of your way before you begin trying to torch anything....
First thing to do is get your bed off. Open fuel door/doors remove fuel caps, unbolt fuel necks (7mm?) and remove hose clamp to brace under bed, push necks out of bed. Next remove tail gate & rear bumper or at least loosen it up & let it hang (bumper). Unplug all of the wire harnesses and ground straps from the back of the bed to frame. 6 or 8 bolts hold bed to frame, 2 up front by cab, 2 all the way back by the bumper, 2 or 4 in the middle (from underneath 2 near the axel/rear fuel tank & 2 more in front of axel{if there}). Access to compressed air, electric, or torches??? Use an impact gun 1/2" drive 3/4" drive if you have it, an air one should work, a battery one may work but a GOOD electric one will do the job. Have a helper w/ you !!! If bed bolts spin you have a few options: 1) Weld bolt heads to bed, heat up nut w/ torch till red and spin them off w/ impact gun. 2) Cut a slot through the center of bolt head for a straight blade screw driver {cut too deep & head WILL break} heat up nut w/ torch till red & spin off w/ impact gun. 3) Cut "sides" off bolt head so an open end wrench or vise grips will hold it while you HEAT up nut w/ torch & spin off w/ impact gun [ see a theme here? ] 4) Shoot/soak everything w/ penetrating oil and let soak for several days then get anoyed cause they still won't come off and HEAT THE NUTS WITH A TORCH TILL RED AND ZIP THEM OFF W/ AN IMPACT GUN. If you welded the bolts to bed you'll need 4 people to lift bed straight up to take off, all other methods w/ bolts removed pull bed back till it contacts tires or hanging bumper then lift off (this keeps you from hitting the cab by accident). Been there many times, even made a hoist for the shop I used to work at to hold the bed for a one man swap operation where I used to work. You may want to look into the NEW style torx bolts & nut clips that the 97 & up new style trucks use IF you destroy all of the bolts from both beds. Hope this helps.
