So I was looking at a truck trader out here in Michigan the other night and found a dealer (don't remember which one) advertising 2011 deisel super dutys for 51-52K? 10,000 under sticker?! I almost wanted to......Aw nevermind. Just thought I would share that for anyone thinking of leaving their dear beloved 6.4 for a shiny new 6.7.
We are seeing about 12-15k off here in the area the Ram dealership is always competing with the Ford Dealership. Seeing 250 CC Diesel trucks 4x4 here for about 39,995
The issue with trading in a 6.4 is you might get a Great discount on a 2011, however you will get nothing for your trade. When dealers are offering huge rebates on new ones, it drives down the trade in Values of the used ones.
Dealers where I live have more traded in 6.4's than they can sell. That drives the trade in value down even more. I'd wait a few more months before I would even considering trading in a 6.4.
The 2011 gets a lot better MPG's than a 08-2010 model, buy it's no savings when you consider the cost to trade for the new one. And don't forget you have to include the cost of the Urea at oil changes too.

Do you ever get a "good" price for a vehicle when it is traded? Try to sell your vehicle outright and go to your dealer to work out a cash deal. I think that's where you'll save your bucks, at least that's my experience.
Ill stick with my 6.4 partly because Im to poor to get the new 6.7 and mostly because it is the best truck Ive ever owned. I drive it reasonably and have NONE of the poor mileage issues you lead footed guys have.

If you negotiate a cash deal up front and then parachute the trade in you'll always know where you stand.

I like that phrase, "Parachute the Trade-in". When I bought this truck I offered them a price and they responded with another, then I said I would have to go away and think about it. When I came back I started to negotiate at his quoted price and he wouldn't even meet the price he quoted! He said he changed his mind. So I guess changing your mind on whether or not you want to deal with a trade-in, or not, is fair game. Parachuting, as you describe it.
