Have 1994 5.8L xlt bronco auto. Failed smog test and dealer told me my PCM needs replacement then they could tell me what is wrong with smog and quoted me $ 700 to repair PCM.
I need instructions on how to take out PCM and suggestions on where to send it to get repaired.
ok lets start with why your failing smog. You need to pull codes. you can do this using a paper clip and go to Ford Fuel Injection which has instructions. Or you can purchase a $30 code reader Equus 3145 on amazon for instance.
do you know if all of your smog equipment is hooked up? does the bronco run properly? what state do you live in?
Pretty sure all smog is hooked up 2 yes ago it passed with flying colors. Live in ca. Car runs great. Will follow up on fuel injection and codes and report back thanks!
Just to add to what Kem already said... the failure rate on a typical PCM is about one in 5,000. NEVER trust a "stealership" especially if the vehicle is more than five years old. (the parts are older, the techs are no longer up to snuff on them, and they will dish a load of crap just to avoid having to deal with it).
