I need some help i replaced the fluid and filter in my transmission and it is leaking fluid, the heads of the bolts for the pan are wet ,not all of them just some of them like in a staggerd pattern and there is dripping where the end of the tranny connects to the driveshaft on the tranny caseing .
when i installed the gasket i was going to use rtv silicone on the gasket but the directions told me not to is this my mistake? And 1,2,3nd gear shifts hard when speeding up and slowing down. can anyone tell me what to do to fix this ?
very,very common.
you overtightened the pan bolts.
they only require a few foot lbs.like 12 for the c6.
you need to drain it and install a new gasket now.
no,don't use any rtv.there's no need.just use a torque wrench this time.it's going to feel like your hardly tightening the bolts.
did the trans just start shifting hard, and a filter w/flush being the first attempt at fixing the problem?
thanks ,the tranny just started to shift hard just about 200 miles after fluid and filter change and sitting for about two months, didnt use a tourqe wrench just did it until it felt tight .
tightening the pan bolts will not feel right.
they require so little force to tighten, you'll sware the thing will leak like a fountain. but it wont.
when you filled the fluid.
how did you check the level?
with the truck running/slowly shift through the gears, and back into park or neutral, and with the truck still running, check it?
if you didn't do it this way,you may have it over or under filled.
what did you use for fluid?
also since you overtightened the pan bolts, then left the truck sitting.my guess would be you lost some fluid, and it's now low, causing the late, hard shifts.
i checked it after driving it it barely had any ,and for fluid i use the walmart brand dextron II ,did i ruin my gears driving it so low on tranny fluid ? i only probably drove 30miles with it hard shifting? I ssooo hope not
it barely had any fluid in it it was below the firdt hole on dipstick ,i use dextron II walmart brand ,did i ruin my tranny driving it so low on fluid only went about 30miles driving it with it hard shifting.
the c6 is a strong trans.
first thing you want to do of course,is replace the pan gasket.
making sure you flatten out the pan surface.if you overtightened them so hard, that you made the pan dimple in all the bolt holes, you need to tap it all flat/even first.
and then of course bring the fluid up to full.
drive her,and she probably won't know you ever mistreated her.
