I have posted on this before i think but havent had any luck yet. I have a 86 f150 302 4x4 efi with aod transmission and 33x12.50's. I have a issue that the engine seems to think it is flooded every time i go to start the engine, so i have to push the pedal to the floor to crank it up. Once its cranked up, it runs fine, idles fine, gas mileage is what i would expect from this truck (around 13ish mpg) I have replaced a lot of the parts on this thing trying to figure out the problem and have had no luck. New/swapped parts include:
Fuel pumps (3), fuel filters (2), injectors, plugs/wires/cap/rotor, dist module, coolant temp sensor (both of them) , injectors, fuel rails, ecu, oil pressure sensor, t-stat, pcv valve, o2 sensor, fuel pressure regulator, rear fuel tank.
Emissions light in truck is not on, although last night came on for one trip, but went out after i turned truck off and back on, it was off and has not come back on since. I have upgraded the alternator to a 3g alternator, and the smog pump has been removed, and the lines from it going to the back of the engine have been capped off. all vacuum lines that i can tell are in working condition, and as said before, the truck runs great (minus the lack of power from 302 and big tires/big truck....lol) I have checked the fuel pressure, and it does not drop when turning the truck off, after 5 min or after hours, it stays the same in the rail, ruling out leaky/stuck injector. I have checked the codes with a code reader and dont get any codes as well.
So the truck still starts even though it thinks its flooded or it cranks for a long time prior to starting? Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator with the vehicle offf and when it is running? That would be my guess. I realize you say that you have already replaced/swapped but thats just what it sounds like to me.
if you hold the key down, it will not ever start, no matter how long you crank it. the regulator pressure looks fine as far as i know, what should the pressures be while cranking and while idling etc?
The best way to check it is to while the car is off pull the vacuum line that goes to the top of it and put your finger over the nipple and see if you can smell gas on your finger. You should not have any hint of gas what so ever. If there is any then you need a new regulator. You can have fine pressure but a bad regulator because it allows gas to go back into the injectors flooding the vehicle out. I had a 96 taurus that would only start if you played with the gas pedal to get it to start. Ran fine after it started with no driveability issues just was ****ty starting. Put a new regulator on it and it has run great for well over a year since then.
