well that sucks. so the 6.0 and 6.4 they both are bad for the head gasket. the ones you are talking about are a pain to put in. I well pull what ever i have to. Maybe I just need to stay away from ford. lol

There are a lot of misconceptions on the 6.0, as I am sure there are for the 6.4. One of them has to do with emissions. I am running well above stock and just tuned HP/TQ levels and not only do I have working coolers, but I also have the original coolers that came with my truck.
You really have to do your homework with regard to the 6.0 and 6.4 engines. If you do that and follow what you find, then you'll be glad that you didn't go with the 7.3, it just doesn't compare to either one of those.

Well said! Big thing about diesels is there intended purpose and the associated maintance that goes with them.
I would almost suggest that there be a mini course or orientation to go thru upon the purchase or consideration of an oil burner. Your driving habits as such need to change just enough that there is a difference.

Well I think I get where you are coming from now. Pushing 600 hp vs the stock 350 hp I would think that some mods are in order. Hope you make that magic #
Where I am coming from is more in stock form or within a 100hp.
Just running heavy in stock form is what it is made for and it won't blow the top off.

These engines come with TTY bolts, not studs. I can't speak for the reliability of the DPF, but the EGR system is far more reliable then most people realize, certainly the people that at most just have tuning on a 6.0 Tuning for a 6.4 is a little different.

I'll be there, but I stopped using his dyno though. It doesn't like Fords all that much. I have always dyno'ed less on his then everywhere else.

I would think that almost anyone would want a tune on the 6.4's. The fuel economy is so poor that it's easier to justify the spartan or SCT.

Tuners are performance enhancers, not MPG gainers. Some may see gains, some may not, some may even lose MPG with tuners.

My vehicles see trailers constantly. My 7.3 has single shot injectors and was built specifically for reliability and fuel economy.
The 6.4 sees better fuel economy in higher hp tunes. I will see 11mpg in my 250hp tune and 9mpg in my 210 or 175 tunes.

As was mine. 155s, 64mm turbo and sees ~16k quite frequently, almost daily during the show season.
However, MPGs aren't something that can really be controlled as there are way to many factors that go into them and changing one factor(ie tuner) isn't going to do much.
In order to really tell if you chip/tuner improved mileage, you also have to account for all the other possible variables(wind speed and direction, how fast you were going, ease into the pedal for both going and stopping, terrain that you traveled, distance that you travels, ambient temp, barometric pressure etc) and you have to keep as much of them as consistent as you can when you do your testing. Hell, even changing the oil can give you better MPGs then running on older oil. Switching diesel stations from a low turnover to high turnover(or vice versa) can also affect MPG as diesel doesn't like to sit.
Could the chip/tuner improved your mileage? Sure.
Can you show conclusively that it did so? No, not unless you have a lot of specialized equipment to do so.
Well regardless I would take my 6.4 over a 6.0. The power is great for work and the compounds allow the truck to operate great at any altitudes.
I would worry more about spare parts when the time comes for fixing things. 6.0s ran from 2003.5 til 2009(E-Series vans account for its running til 09), while you have from what 07 to 10 for 6.4s, not a lot in terms of parts. I think International is still producing the 6.0s as well, maybe for the 6.4 that I don't know.
