hey all
i have a 1991 eddie baur and my drivers seat back seems to lean back on the right side and also seems to not be real firm like the passenger side seat. has anyone repaired this or hve this happen to them. i feel like im really cool when i lean to the right of the seat, ya know what i mean. hope someone can help me with this problem. also failed inspection for NOx any one know if this could be a bad catalytic converter?
I got a similar problem with my 89 on the driver side. On mine the seat braket is broken one one of the 4 feet and it moves around. I could weld it and maybe yours is broken to. It would be obvious if it was so check it out. Who knows you could be missing a bolt or something easier.
I was gonna say to swap the seats, but then the armrests would be on the wrong side. I wonder if the seats are universal and have bosses for the armrests on both sides? Of course you would still have a small hole in the fabric. It depends on how nice your Bronco is. If you just want to be comfortable when driving you could swap the seats and remove the armrests.
This EXACT same thing happened to my '90 Bronco. I tore the metal frame out of the driver's seat back and all the tack welds were broken. There were also tears in the metal from fatigue. I also had a tear in the metal seat support. My solution was to take them all down to a metal fabricator who bent them back into shape, welded and reinforced them, and now I don't have a problem. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than new seats.
what did this job cost? how hard was it to tear the seat apart to get to the frame? what do you think it would cost to take it somewhere and say just fix it. do you think an auto upolsterer would be able to fix this?
A guy at an upholstery shop gave me the idea. I took the seat to him and he knew exactly what the problem was (he had dealt with broken seat backs in Broncos before). He wanted $100 to do it. I thought that was a little high, so I decided to tackle it myself. The seat comes apart and goes back together easily enough, with the armrest being the only headache. The metal welding and reinforcing by the fabricator, a friend of mine, cost $20.
To answer your question, yes, a good seat upholstery shop should be able to take care of it for you.
