Ran into a situation last week with the spare tire on a 2002 F350. The spare is accessed by lowering it on a cable and winch operated by the jack handle and a "key". In order to insert the key and jack handle into the receiver behind the bumper, you need clear access to the rear bumper. My brother's F350 has a 12 foot camper that extends past the rear bumper and the gray water tanks hangs below the access hole for the spare tire winch.
The only option for getting the spare lowered is to raise or remove the camper which is not an easy task, especially out in the rough.
Has anyone heard of or devised another way to mount and lower the spare fromt its stock location? We'll probably just stowe another spare tire in the camper when it's on the truck so we don't have to deal with the issue.
had a buddy of mine with a welding truck. he had no good access from the rear of the truck so we just rotated the cable winch 90 degrees. now he lowers it from the drivers side of the truck, and lose the "key" after you move the winch. it just pulls out.
his truck body is custom made. hes a welder...so he built his own truck body. the body is a flat body w/ tool boxes at the cab and under the body. he had clear shot, no drilling. mess around with it, maybe you can turn it past 90 degrees and just climb under to hoist it down. good luck let us know what you do. post back.
