Need help with hubs and rotors-F250

I have bearings or something shot in the front end of my 1986 F250 4x4, and I need to pull the brake rotors off. To do this, I need to remove the hub also. I have pulled on most of the outer locking hub assembly, and I've gotten to where I need to remove the inner gear hub housing, which is the piece that the outer hub part screws on to with the 6 hex cap screws, which the manual says should just slide out, or pull out somewhat easilv. I can't get the ****** out. Are there any tricks to get it out? Any help is appreciated. And I know this isn't exactly offroad related, but I know that the offroad forum has the smartest guys in it, so thats why I posted here.

I think there's a snap ring around the outermost part of the inside of the hub. Sometimes they're covered in grease and hard to see. If you have this out, try threading the screws into it without the cover on and pulling, that helps sometimes too.

i use a super small flat tip screwdriver, and a set of snap on dental picks.
it is a royal pain the first time, but after you do it 4-5 times it will get easier.

make sure you get the proper socket. there are two different sockets available for the ford front hub nuts. one for the D-44, and one for the D-50 and D-60

cammok, the link you posted is no good.

Yeah, Tom I also used a small flathead screwdriver, two of 'em actually. Once you manage to get one end out, it pops out of there pretty easily. Forgot to mention the other stuff, but the guys are spot on with the 4 prong socket that you'll need. Autozone/advance also rent them if you don't want to pay for it. They have a fairly specific name that's escaping me right now. Wheel nut socket or something like that, but you should be able to explain your way into finding it, or look at the little chart they keep on the counter and find the socket with 4 prongs on it.

even though it's a socket, it's called a locknut spindle wrench.
