its startin to get cold here and i work nights at a military prison. i dont have a block heater plug and if i did i couldnt plug it in at work because there are no outlets at work on the outside of the building. is it going to harm my truck in any way that it is not plugged in to keep the glow plugs warm when i go to start my truck? what do i need to look out for?
first I'd use a syn oil ( rotella T6) and diesel kleen winter fuel treatment also make sure that you Battaries are good. then at start up wait for glow plug light to go out then start your truck. should do it.
Unless you live somewhere with an actual winter- i.e., prolonged temps below 10 degrees- just forget about it and run the truck as normal. It just is not that big of a deal. But good batteries are always a good idea. In my experience, the original equipment batteries are crap. -mike
how cold is it where you are?if your batteries are up to snuff and you cycle the glow plugs a couple of times a 6.0 will usually start prettygood.mine has started at-28 degrees, cackles a bit but smooths out pretty quickley.use 5w40 full syn oil.maybe you have a starter slowing down.the faster they spin the quicker the start.good luck
