I have a 1984 F-150 stick shift shortbed truck with a bad body and good drivetrain. Then I have a 1983 F-150 lwb with good cab. I wanna keep it swb. Would it make more sense to swap the cabs? Also, is a automatic tranny common for the 80-86? Somebody once told me I could simply switch the clutch pedal, fork, and slave cyldiner to the auto cab and it would bolt right up.Is that true?
The cabs will swap. You will have to decide how much work you want to get into, and if you can handle/lift the cabs, or if patching the original cab is what you want to do.
Automatic trannies are very common in these trucks.
If you want to swap the pedals, you have to swap the whole pedal assembly. It has a large bracket that bolts under the dash. But it will swap and bolt in. You can also swap the floor plates(around the transmission shift lever), the auto truck will have a plain solid plate with no holes(except if it's 4x4), and they bolt in.
Your going to have to remember that the cab is very very heavy and its gonna take either a couple of strong guys or a fork lift to get the cabs swapped.
