Dumb question about steering upgrades

One of my trucks, I just enjoy fiddling with, try to keep projects simple, so it's simple to work on. However, I have the Bendix style control valve steering, nothings wrong with it, just been toying with the idea of converting to 79 stuff. I'm usually really pressed for time, so that's where my dumb questions are stemming from. Do you in fact, need to remove the front clip and engine to throw the 79 components in. I know it would definitely make it easier, but if I can save a few hours, I will. If the the front clip and engine do in fact need to come off, about how long did the steering component swap take you guys?

I was watching this thread as I was kind of curious as well. My power assist works pretty much flawlessly but it would be nice to know what I'm up against if I run into a major problem. Its looks to me like it could be done with the truck completely together but I'm not for sure.

It took me two weekends to swap the integral PS system from a 79 Bronco into my 73 4x4. Allz I had removed was the driver's front tire... wouldda been nice to have the engine out for the welds on the inside of the frame.

Thanks for the info HIO. I suspected it could be done, would just be tight.
