Holidaze Madness

Well folks, as we are all aware (cause the stores have been telling us since mid-July) the holidays are quickly approaching. With this comes shopping.

Having seen most of the BF ads for this year, one thing disappoints me even more than the semi-pathetic deals. That is the trend by more and more stores to either a. open on Thanksgiving or b. open at 12,1,2,3am on the day after. Whatever happened to allowing employees to spend time with their loved ones on the holiday? I hear all these companies talking about work/life balance but when it comes to the special days, they just don't seem to care (not that they really care all that much anyway...it's just a catchphrase most places). "Oh, we let them be with their families for 4-5 hours on Thanksgiving, then they either have to go to work or go to sleep to get up at the butt-crack of dawn to go to work."

I guess the only positive to the whole mess is that at least most folks get to spend the holiday with their loved ones. There are a whole lot of folks that not only don't get the opportunity but may in fact spend the day fighting for their lives ...and our freedoms.

Rant off. Just irked by the whole money grubbin' thing.

I used to work retail and agree with you 100%. The catch is--if nobody would go out and shop on Thanksgiving, then these stores would not be open.

I'm sure that those poor people that have to go to work would much rather stay home with their families, eating that small turkey they bought with the last of their unemployment check. Or maybe the canned ham they got from the food bank.

I never understood the whole being open on Thanksgiving thing. Whatever happened to eating dinner, then watching football and just spending time with family (which is what I still like to do on thanksgiving!)? Now people have to go out and shop.

I worked at Sears for 6 years, worked Black Friday every year, but never went in at 4 or 5 AM when the store opened that friday. Screw that. I did usually have to go in and work 2:30PM-11PM though.

Those people are breaking the law...

J/K, I know what you meant. People that do have to work on holidays can do one of 2 things:
Be bitter about having to work on a holiday, or
Be thankful that they have a job.

I suppose you can do both. I definitely hated giving up all of my weekends when I was delivering pizza full time, but I sure was thankful that I had a job.

I think it has damn near JACK to do with this thread. If you have thoughts on the matter, express them yourself instead of with friggin' videos!

And there is nothing at all to love in that video, IMHO.

I will now go to the corner Mods.

I'm not sure why you're surprised. I think a number of people have expressed their opinion on the regular slew of entirely unrelated stupid video's.

Well, call me silly but I figured you were trying to express some kind of opinion/thoughts through the use of the useless video. I posted this expecting, just as you should on every bulletin board/forum, for people to post any thoughts/opinions on the matter. Every other board I've been on has threadcrappers but they normally use words instead of stupid Youtube videos.

I have worked thanksgiving AND Christmas at a plant that ran 24-7-365.......
And all I could think about was the holiday pay+double time and a half!
At the expense of sounding like the Archie Bunker music on "All in the family"
Those were the days!

Count on being on duty in the military too.

I've worked the holidays in retail as well. Will be again this year. Not looking forward to it but I'm thankful I have a job after being without for some time.

I think I'd rather be on a register or the floor than having to be outside trying to keep the cattle from stampeding.
