Hello to all. I own a 1997 Ford F-150 with 116k miles. I think that I have a blown head gasket or a cracked cylinder head or possibly both. I have a mechanic looking at it and he told me that the 4.2l V-6 and the 4.6l V-8 would interchange. I figured that it would be cheaper to get a used engine put in rather than fixing the head. Does anyone know if the V-8 will interchange with the V-6 or not.
Yes they will interchange....if you do enough work.
I'm not sure it's really worth all the effort though. I think that swapping the engine would be more money than fixing what you have now unless you got a complete donor truck to take the parts off.
The bellhousing is different so you'd need the transmission that matches the engine as well as the exhaust, accessory mounts, underhood wiring harness, hoses, PCM, throttle cable etc etc etc.
