91 Explr: Battery Electrical Problems, Diagnose Help Needed
Battery was run down and would not hold a charge long. Driving home the Volt Meter on the dash went to 8vts and the Dash Battery light went on. SO I went to PepBoys and had a Battery installed. Car started up perfectly, But the Volt Meter is still at 8 and the Battery light is still on. Until I rev the engine to 3,000 RPMs then the Battery dash light goes off.....SO what do you guys think the problem is?

your problem is most likely the voltage regulator on you alt, you can replace that or, if it were my 91 explorer with what ever miles on it i would replace the altenator assy. depending on if you buy new or reman it may or may not come with the regulator already installed. now replacing the alt. is quite a bit more money but do you want to take a chance in dealing with this problem again in which case you might have to replace the alt. anyway. sincerely scott

i don't know about any links with photos or not but, what you'll need to do is first disconnect the battery, then removed the drive belt, then dissconect the wiring, and unbolt from mounting braket. normaly it's held on with two-three bolts. (depends on year of make and i can't remember which your year of make was). after that the regulator is mounted on the rear with 4 torx bolts, t20 i believe. and out comes the regulator and brush set. i realy suggest replacing the alt assy at this time if you can afford it just because of the age of alt. if it's original. hope this helps sincerely scott.
