Undercoating??

My brother has a 2009 F350. He had Line-X do the bed and they also coated the entire underside. Has anyone had this done? If so, is it worth the extra expense?

I'm interested in this also. Should be a great rust inhibitor but does it also quiet down road noise?

I remember having my 1986 F150 done. Back then "undercoating" was the craze for anyone living in the snowbelts (we invented the terms "Rustang" and "winter car"). It did a great job of keeping the underside from seeing the salt but back then the formulations weren't very good and you needed to go back every year for a re-coating. And of course -- you paid for the re-coats.

My brother thinks it is helping, just wan't sure if others are doing it as well.

I just sprayed the Fluid Film under my rig a few days ago. We will see how it does.

Fluid Film is great on snow plows! Let us know how it holds up.

I got my truck undercoated last week. It was a dealership option in the "environmental package" ($899.00). Entire package included undercoating "Sound-guard", leather and carpet spray-on protection. I had the undercoating option done on my previous truck and loved how easy it was to clean under the truck. Also, after owning my last truck for 15 years...I had no rust underneath it. Since I had the undercoating done right away..I can't speak on the sound difference inside the truck before and after.

Appreciate responding. Based on your experience, my brother's and my 24 year old experience, I think I will put it on the list of things I will have done when I pick up the truck.

Is Fluid Film a brand? I use Corrosion X on my boat and trailer because I use them for salt water fishing, which is pretty severe duty.

John Deere is one of their distributors. It is a Corrision X type formula. Used heavily by the farming community. I have used it on snow plow parts and it does a great job of preventing corrision caused by salt.

I'm not sure I understand the theory to undercoating. Here in Canada we have a lot of gravel roads. So when your undercoating gets chipped up from gravel, then you get water in those chips and under your coating, how's that gonna dry?Without undercoating at least it can air dry. I think your better off spending the money on carwashes and get rid of the salt than to undercoat and let it sit.
