I am in need of replacing both the front and rear speakers in my truck as they are 11 years old and cracking loudly. Now I am not one who puts a lot of cash into audio as I am not in my truck for long periods of time, but I do like decent sound. I really dont know alot about audio systems, but one of the questions I have is this. Ive noticed that over time Ive had to increase the volume to almost max to hear the radio, Is this because of the worn out speakers ,or is it because the stock radio in my truck is not designed for louder music? I also would like some suggestions on a good middle of the road, inexpensive, speaker that again, just produces decent sound . Thanks guys Bill

There is no easy answer for the speaker. What I consider sounding good maynot be good enough to you and vice versa. Go and listen to some, and tell the sells man that you're running of an OE head unit. You should be looking at the speakers that need ~15-25 watts, not the 100+ watt ones.

The volume problem could be as simple as the contacts corroding, or the surround deteriorating and making it more difficult to push the cone around.
