Hey guys I have a 1981 F100 Ranger and it has a 302 with a three speed transmission, I have another truck similar to this but it has a four sped manual with a inline six and i want to put in a 5 speed because this three speed is really getting old and t will be more fun with a five speed . So can anyone help me get a list of parts so i can start getting them and get my swap done before winter sets in for good. Please and thanks guys.
All Ford truck 5 speeds take a hydraulic clutch. Your 81 might have a mechanical clutch. If it does, you will have to change out the whole pedal assembly under the dash. And of course you will have to mount the hydraulic master to the firewall.
You will also need a new driveshaft, and you might have to move the tranny mount on the frame and drill some new holes for it.
