well,
in my search for good engine canidates for swapping in to my 66 f250 ive only found 2 in the local area, one is a wrecked 2000 police crown vic, i can get the whole car for like 600ish maybe less, or i work with a guy that has a 95 wrecked f350 with a 7.3 powerstroke 2wd 5 speed! i can get either of these for less 800$
wanted to hear what the community had to say about this 2 options.
im kinda leaning toward the diesel, thats what i know and i work on them all day long and they can turn some real power with just a little bit of money!
the interceptor would be really fast to, but its a heavy truck and a small engine! im not shure how this would react in the frame of this truck!
A P71 Crown Vick, why do you think it would be too small under the hood? I like the PSD, but of course, you are dropping a lot of weight on the front end with that motor. The good thing about the CV is you can have the whole thing at your disposal, you will need it all to go with the EFI....

My choice would be the powerstroke, F250's are meant to pull and that stroker will have the torque. Being able to get the whole truck, you'll have the harness and all. I think the 7.3 will be an easier swap than the mod motor. My buddy has a 72 F250 4X4 crew with a 7.3 powerstroke, 6-speed out of a Super Duty and man does that thing turn heads!
i got a 65 w/ a mildly built high compresion 429 and a built c-6 w/ some tci goodies man that is a fun ride ! but i also have a stock 99 f-350 4x4 w/ 7.3 and 6 speed manual that i ordered new and now have 257000 mi!! and i am starting to look at the things you can do to this already awsome motor you can really build a power house with out a lot of interior engine mods . ie exhaust / turbo / fuel system / programer / ect... i like both very differant trucks i say powerstroke for reliable brute power but nothing is funner than stomping my right foot on the 429 and blowing by kids in there 5.0 mustangs in my farm truck wes
I say powerstroke, I am wanting to do a diesel project as well just need more space! There is a guy that put a cummins in a slick crewcab on youtube and normally i'm not a cummins fan but this one peaks my interest. Also there is a guy around here that has a 53 3/4 with a cummins that he has customized and he pulls his fifth wheel with it and she is nice as well.
i saw a truck that was a 65 cab with the floor and dash area cut out and slipped over a floor and dash and frame and running gear of a powerstroke so it kept all wireing and gauges of the powerstroke but the looks from outside told you it is a 65. lots of custom fabrication but it can be done . looked good he made fenders fit hood ect. and a step side bed from frame up looked like a 65 but undernieth powerstroke !!
cool idea wes
im thinkin powerstroke as well, the money will be spent well, as the man said 257,000 thats alot of miles, and these old trucks are built to last and with a drive train like that bullet proof! as for the weight, ill be getting rid of that huge boat anchor 359 hd FT engine. with heads and intake that things gotta wiegh over 800lds so im not gaining that much under the hood fat! 250hp 500lds of torque sounds good to me!!! skys the limit when it comes to the diesel, heavy duty head gaskets, head studs, main studs, bigger injectors and turbo and a programmer! 3000$ 600 to 700hp thats less than my engine build cost on a 460 or that 390 stroker! yeah i think im gonna go with the power stroke!
