i've got a c4 trans that won't shift into 3rd gear. if i put it in drive it shifts from 1st to 2nd just fine but no third. it doesn't slip, it just stays in 2nd. i get the same thing if i shift manually. someone told me it might be a vacuum leak so i replaced the lines just to be sure but it didn't help.
