Overheating

I got an 85 ford F-150 4x4.. Ive got an overheating problem. I start my truck,and it runs like a champ. I take it up to about 2,200 RPMS before I shift. Well it get hot REAL FAST. And when it gets like that I try to take it up to about the same rpms to shift my rpms are all over the place.. They jump up and down like crazy. I can't figure it out!

Did you just buy this truck? Has any work been done or a engine swap? By the way, what engine size do you have?

I bought it about about 3 weeks ago.I changed the spark plugs,and spark plug wires,air filter,fuel filter,and an oil change. The engines a 300 strait six 4.9!!

Are you sure this thing is overheating and the RPMs are, in fact, changing, or is it merely
your gauges showing you this? The gauges can be inaccurate for a variety of reasons.
