I am to the point of tackling the door panel inserts and would like thoughts from the all-knowers. I have built 1/8" wood replacements for my less than pretty steelies, but do I want to cut them for speakers or not? I do not know how long I will be keeping the truck once done and since I will be covering them to match the seat, do I just leave them blank and enjoy the am/sound of the motor? I ran wires for door speakers and to the rear of the seat so I can always hook a box up back there for noise. Check out my gallery and see what you think.

Seriously, since they are wood, if I wanted sound, I see no problem cutting them for speakers. Always hate to see metal inserts cut for speakers.
If you really want the stock look, and you may sell the truck, why don't you just paint your metal door inserts + keep them for when you sell the truck? If they rusted away, then may I suggest there are many viable options, such as finding replacement metal inserts, buying door zippered storage compartments, etc. to worry too much about this concern.
Mike, These cabs don't lend space for speakers, and since there were no stereos back when these trucks were built we have to be creative. There may be a few here that are against door panel speakers, many trucks have them.
I agree with both Greg's & John comments; door speakers aren't a major selling point; for me if I was going to purchase a truck; Current owner comfort (Music ) with taste is always accepted!
I hate when someone hacks the dash area too installed a cd player & ruin a good panel; (big retangular cut out) but everything is replacable with the right know how!
I would cut the panels for speakers, actually I cut mine and just put in a nice 6.5 component speaker it looks good, as others have said just do it tastefully. Replacement panels are cheap, but really I wouldn't really care if I bought a truck and they were cut for speakers. I built a custom console for my stereo dvd player because I refuse to cut the dash, on the other hand that you can't replace so easy and I love the looks of it without.
