I found a guy in the paper that has a 53 f500 that has a dump bed. Not sure if its a grain truck or dump truck, but I called him and he said it has a decent body. I asked him if it ran and he said that he drove it 25 miles two years ago and it ran great (flathead v8) and the brakes also worked fine. He wants 1200 for it. I thought that this was reasonable. What do you think?
If the body is in rust free condition with a good Flathead it might be worth the asking price. What would you do with it? Put the body on a good F100 frame? I remember passing on a similar rig once. The farmer ended up having a welding shop cut it up for a trailer. rust free cab went to the dump.
I'd say that is pretty close IF it indeed runs and stops. Especially if the body is okay. There is one close here that is being advertised for $3000 (still being advertised as you might guess). Another one is a 52 dump truck for something like $2600. Some people are proud of em if you know what i mean.
Well, I will probably go look at it, but I should save the money for an early 90s 4x4, so i can have something to drive in the winter. I could part it out if it had good body parts.
rebuilding an old truck, or parting it out so that others can be rebuilt, are both better options than letting another one get crushed. That's where mine was heading... I bought it for scrap value.
