Curious troubles with my 67 it has a 351w. I can idle it for any length of time and drive around the neighborhood but if I go out onthe roads after about 8 miles it shuts off just like running out of gas after a couple of minutes it will start back up and go a mile or so and s/o again this carries on until I park over night then will repeat on next quest. any ideas are appreciated.
randy, maybe some kinda vapor lock???? remove gas cap and try it again???? maybe dirt floating around in the carb.. i had similar problem on a couple motorcycles over the years
I have the exact same problem with out the gas cap It happens within a few hundred feet every time I tried it again and the shutdowns were close enough in distance that i could see where it shut off the time before.
Check yer pick up tube.....the straw that sucks the gas inside the tank.....they can get little holes in them that allow air to enter the fuel line....
If the truck has a 351W, it was swapped in. First year for the 351W in F Series trucks = 1981.
The original fuel pumps used in these trucks have a corrogated paper fuel filter (C4AZ9365B-Motorcraft FG1A) that fits inside a cannister that threads onto the fuel pump.
Most people are unaware, so it rarely gets changed. And...since most people are unaware, they install an inline fuel filter.
