Its time to replace all 4 tires on my F-250. It currently has 235/85 16 but Im thinking of going with a set of 285/75's I use the truck to plow snow in the winter and I haul fire wood out of the woods and so some off road work with it in the summer and fall. I need a decent tire that won't cost a fortune. I'd like a set of BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's but they are about $200 each from discounttiredirect and thats about the best price I have found in a 285/75. I would like to stay under $600 + mounting for a decent set of tires if possible. Whats everyones suggestions?????
To even get close to your price range and size the only ones I can think of are:
Firestone Destination A/T
General Grabber AT 2
Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61
and Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S
Not for me. Went from 235/85s to 285/75s and traction is better everywhere with the larger tires.
I'd take a good look at the Yokohama Geolander A/T they are a decent tire with a good tread design. Pass on the Firestone Destination A/Ts in my experience they are junk tires.

+1 on the Yokohama Geolanders. Good price, quiet ride, smooth ride, excellent traction, wearing very smooth with several thousand on them now.
I agree, the wider the tire the more your gonna float on top of the snow. Go with a skinnier tire and it will dig down to the ground, giving you more traction.
Personally I don't like BFG's only got 11K out of them and at $200 a tire I would have expected more.
I've heard good things about the generals but stick with local tire shops snow tires.
last yr. I bought a good set but cant remember the name, I'll look tonight and reply.
I usually stick with 265/70/R16. Keeping the winter ones on the factory rims and got a set of DURATRAC's for my 17"DC2 rims for summer. They look like they'll kick a*s in the winter but don't want to ruin the rims with the salt they use in PA. For $250 a tire I'de like to keep them around for a little while.
well if your looking at 285s which is about a 33inch tire youd ideally want 255 85 because that will give you the height your looking for but will also be the skinniest tire. However this tire size is rare and hopefully someone else can chime in with some options, I know toyo makes the m55 but its a very expensive tire.
