1998 f150 4x4 5.4L is driving me crazy. After replacing the plugs, MAF, some injectors and coils after 200 miles it runs as though I never worked on it at all, I typically have problems after pulling a trailer but on a wood gathering trip yesterday I had this trouble. a recurring problem with the #2 and #4 coils which have been replaced as well as those injectors the truck is at it again..
I get a flashing of the engine light while driving last night first 58 times then off, then 54 times then off and then 52 times off, 52 again for two more sequences and off. Do these mean anything to you guys out there? This is a high mile truck that otherwise runs and drives great and I cant afford a newer one right now, please help. No the engine light is not on now.
First you need to read codes to be sure you know what the issues are in total.
Next, are you doing the coil installs with grease inside the tips of the boots so they can find and slip onto the plug tops easy?
Are the boots in good shape with no hard or cracked areas or pin holes?
Be sure the springs inside the boots are free and don't hang up short.
In the future don't replace items that are not involed in a trouble unless it is plugs, fuel/air filter etc.
It just increases the chances for causing issues you have to hassle with.
Good luck.
Wanted you to know how much your posts have helped me in the past. I didn't have to do anything to the truck this time around, after I took the ton +/- of firewood off the truck it's been running just fine.
To answer your other questions though, of course I have check for each of those minor problems, I assume that possibly I got some water up in the plug holes as the coils dont seal that area from moisture. Thanks again
