Question about my 6.0 running strange
Ok I will try and give good details, I have an 04 6.0 f250 with 158xxx miles with a old edge programmer on it. And no other mods.
Here is the question, My truck is surging while driving on the highway. It seems to go from having good power to less power and back. It also will surge at a complete stop as well, if I dont watch it, I could run into the back of someone, and the other issues are, in the mornings rather its 45deg or 65deg doesnt seem to make any difference, the truck starts and ideals great no cold start issues at all. No smoke, no rough ideal nothing at all, but when I take off down the road she starts to buck and miss really bad untill she completely warmed up, like 10 miles or so, and then runs smooth again. If I start it and let it run for 5 min or 20 min, it makes no difference. I have changed the oil about 3000 miles ago with Rotello full syn 5/40 and fuel filters change at the same time, no differnce after or before the service. I have tried taking the programmer off and still does the same thing. Oh and no engine light or service light has come on. Any ideas?
Oh and another thing, if I start is and hold it at 2000 rpm the truck will rev up to about 2200 and go down to about 1200 and back, and I never move my foot, will do this over and over. Not the same rpm everytime, but does go up and down. Seems like its laboring when going down in rpm.
Thanks for any ideas..

Suggest you start readiing the tech folder.... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html
Most here believe using the EDGE programmer will kill/cripple the 6.0/tranny.

ICP=Injection Control Pressure Sensor
IPR=Injection Pressure Regulator
The syptoms you describe sound exactly like what my tech at the ford place said his 03 was doing when his ICP went bad. Depending on whether you have a early or late 04, the ICP will be under the turbo(early) or on the passenger side valve cover(late). The IPR will be under the turbo for both. You need to check for codes with a good scanner, that will begin to narrow your problem down.

Bad injector, leaking injector (combustion into the fuel rail), ICP, IPR, low fuel pressure or a combination of all of the above. The 04 can have an 03 or 04 motor in it. Check to see if you have a sensor (ICP) in the passenger side top/front of the valve cover. That would be an 04 motor. No sensor would be an 03 motor.

First thanks for the responces.
Mine is the early 04, So mine ICP was in the passanger side valve cover, I checked out the sensor and the wires were good and there was no oil on the connector or in it when i pulled the connector off.
I took the truck to the dealer yesterday and they wanted $200 to pull the codes..IDTS And I also checked to see if there any updated recalls for my truck, None. I had already taken the truck in this past Janurary and had them done. t\They replaced the injector harness, and the EBP sensor and also did a reflash.
The service manager keept saying he thinks that its an injector that is bad, but he also says it will smoke if that is the case. MINE doesn't smoke, only when its on the wood. LOL and only a tiny bit. So now what? Any ideas? Going to another shop today to see if I can get the codes pulled and if so, I will post them. Thanks again.
Oh one more thing, my EGR is still hooked up, I have taken it out and cleaned it. Was thinking about unplugging it, but want to read more about it,. there is so much information on doing and not doing it...

UPDATE...Took the truck in today to tech who seems to know his stuff, and wasn't trying to get in my wallet.
Hooked up the scanner/ pda and ran a test on the injectors, and pulled codes. There was only one code, and he said it was a just an air intake temp code, nothing to do with the running issues of the truck.
What he did say after the test on the injectors was all good. He said that there is a part inside the injector that moves up and down controlling the fuel flow to the cyclinder, and its is probably sticking and I can try a fuel lubricant or leave it with him and let him hook into it during a cold start and drive it and see what the scanner picks up. I put a lubricant in the tank and after about 30 miles the motor has gotten a little smoother and quieter, so we will see in the morning.
