Up and running

Okay, the truck survived the 70 miles home, but has been sitting a month or so. The fuel in the rear tank is fresh, but the little that's left in the front is bad. What needs to be done - drain it, or top off with fresh fuel and go on with my day?

Should I also look into any additives?

How is it 'bad'? Diesel doesn't go 'stale' like gasoline will...if the tank is low, and otherwise free of rust, water or dirt, dump some diesel kleen in, and whatever you use for water treatment (anti gelling additives also work) in case of a bit of moisture, and fill it up.

Diesel doesn't actual go stale, but algae would be a concern and not something you want spread through your lines.

Also a tank that has been low is very likely to have rust in it.

A new tank is like $100, if you have any doubts about the content and condition of your current front tank I think it's best to just replace it.

Thanks for the replies. The tank hasn't been used in about 4 cycles, according to the PO, but it was used every other fill up previously.

My truck diesel can sit for 6 months has yours been that long..... you could put a conditioner in it and fill it..... when it is down again change the fuel filter and put fresh fuel and more conditioner..... I use Hayes Diesel treat, some use Stanadyne and Power Service (Diesel) white or silver bottle (wallymart).

PS stay away from discount and Mom and Pop fueling points. Good brands with low prices are usually fine.
