A few weeks ago I got the Eagle polished 184 alloys. It snowed last week and all the salt was out on the roads. Today I washed my truck and now my rims are really dirty and they have gray looking stuff in the little holes and indentions. I rubbed on them but it doesnt come off very easy. What is the best way to clean a polished wheel? Will kerosense strip the polish off??
A buddy of mine has American Racing polished Atlas's on his truck. And they look dirty everytime he washes it. The best thing that you could do is use a good quality aluminum polish, like Mothers. This will help a little, but I don't know of a way to get them to look like new. My buddy has tried quite a few things to his rims, and he is now ordering new American Racing rims, I don't know the style, but he is getting the chrome aluminum rims this time and keeping the polished ones for his winter rims. Sorry I couldn't help more.....
Casrtol makes a degresser that works well on everthing. If you can't find it, try Wrestley's or some other type degresser. Just stay away from any solvents.
The gummy dirty stuff has just worked it's way into the grooves and crevicesof the applied coat. You only need something that will break the grime up. Scouring products will only wind up giving you the same effect as sand paper. Rubbing the higher coated area down untill you rub out the grime. You only notice after rust starts to appear, that the last time you cleaned them, you really cleaned them.
Thankyou for attending, Wheel cleaning 101.
