rearend question.
I took my 9" out of my 76 and replaced it with a 9" out of a 72. This gave me a 4" narrower width but the 72 9" has a TON of play in the yolk. The 76 9 is perfect. i know both center sections will interchange but how can I tell if the axle splines are the same count? I am sure the numbers on the dif tell me but I am illiterate to what they mean. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

I can't really help,the only way I know is pull the axle.I have two 79 rears and one is 28 and the other is 31. The 28 came from a f-100 with I believe had 2:75 or close to that,gears and the other one f-150 had 3:50 gears. There may be a way so maybe somebody can tell both of us.
