have a '99 350ps. having trouble starting recently. thinking maybe glow plugs but wanted to run by you guys.
it can take up to 5mins turning key on and off after trying to start each time. it cranks fine. just keeps cranking. wife said she put our little jumpstarter on it once and it started right up. is that a battery issue or glow plug issue? thanks guys!
First thing to check would be the GPR.
Gotta make sure when key is first turned on that post 4 has battery.
If that checks OK then Ohm the GPs.
As far as your wife needing to use a jump start, the batteries probably got low from previous cranking and the voltage dropped below 10.5. Below that level the injectors will not fire.
finally got around to checking the gpr. i checked post 2 first just to make sure it was getting power, it was good to go. checked post 4 with the key off & no power, which is what i was expecting. just wanted to get a point of reference. turned the key on & tested post 4 & again no power at all. would that be right if it was bad? i was kind of expecting some power. moved the probe around the post to make sure i wasn't getting a bad connection but still 0 volts. question: is 0 an acceptable outcome or did i do something wrong?
side note. had to replace alternator. wasn't giving it's all. explains having to use the jump starter.
If the wait to start light was lluminated and u had no power on post 4, then its bad. If u want to recheck just in case, check post 4 again and if no power, checks posts 3 & 5. 5 always has power with the key on and 3 supplies a ground from the pcm when the GPR relay is needed.
If all the inputs are there, and still no power on post 4, the contacts are probably burned off of the relay
