Hi all I was wondering what kind of maintenance I should be aware of with the 1999 f350 super duty V8 power stroke, I am A NEW dIESEL Truck owner any input would be appreciated, I have been told to use fw16 in the coolant, the truck has 99k miles.
Ford recommends 8-10oz of FW-16 in the green coolant every 15K miles. Some guys get test strips I think from the dealer or places like Geno's Garage to test it first.
Use a properly rated diesel oil like Shell Rotella T, Chevron Dello 400, or Mobil Delvac 1300 series. Most guys run 15W40 all year. If your truck is hard to start 10W30 will help when below 30*. Most important is that it is rated for the PSD though.
I use motorcraft oil filters. $9.47 @ Wal-Mart vs. $19.99 @ Ford for the same filter.
Ford recommends replacing the fuel filter every 15K I think as well.
I replace the air filter every 3K with the oil change. Some guys wait for the filter minder to be set.
Thank you very much for the input DC, I am using Rotella, and I will start changing the air filter every 3k appreciate the tip! I have a question? The truck is a 1999 F350 XLT Super Duty V8 power stroke with the 7.3 liter the reason I have purchased the truck was the prior owner had installed a calvinized steel hydralic dump on it (dually) , I purchased the truck for 26,000$ with 85k miles on it do you think that was a fair price the prior owner stated he did use Rotella and recommended it and the truck was very clean power everything, the only thing I had to do so far and it has 99,500k miles on it was replace the front tires. Since I have never owned a diesel before is there anything else I should chk for thank you for your help I'm a noob who knows nothing aboutDiesel trucks
