I was on my way home from the airport (I have been in Atlanta on business for two weeks) and I have a little accident. I was backing out of a parking spot and hit a damn light pole. Well, the truck shut off and won't re-start. I tried re-setting the inertia fuel shutoff switch. No luck. I then, pulled the electrical connection and tried jumpering it with no luck. I ended up having a friend tow it home and now it is sitting dead in the street.
What should I check?
The engine cranks, but will not fire. Don't forget that I already reset the switch in the Passenger Side Foot Well. I also replaced the fuel pump fuse.
Tomorrow I am going to investigate more, but I just thought I would get a general consensus of what might be wrong.
Thanks,
Greg
P.S. I have an Auto Enginuity, so if there is anything I should try with that, feel free to suggest them.
Thanks guys, I will check those first. That is kind of what I was leaning to. I will check the fuel pump connections, the DP Tuner (the number went to 1 from 2 when the accident happened). Do you know of any other fuses/relays other than the ones below the steering wheel that would result in a crank-no start situation?
Damn..how fast you were backing up? I remember my wife one day backed straight up out of a parking spot at a gas station. Well she side swipped a guy in his new black mercedes getting fuel. When i say new..still had window sticker . 1 scratch on her lower fairing drivers side..and the mercedes?? From front pass fender to back pass door including mirror. Her response was that I needed to check the back up sensors, they didnt work. I said nope, not at that speed. She also told the guy not to worry that "it would buff right out" .. i almost S**t myself, that was funny.
Hell, I didn't think I was going that fast, but the damage says otherwise. It was one of those light poles on top of a 3' Dia piece of concrete. It hit on the Passenger Side (basically right where the tail light is).
The only other accident I have gotten in was in a parking lot as well. It was right after I bought my first vehicle (1999 F150). I was pulling into a spot, and I apparently didn't know where the corners of my vehicle were, so I ended up scraping down the side of the car I was parking next to. Ended up costing me $1,300 to fix her car since I didn't want to go through insurance. Only, with this accident (at 1 MPH) only put a little paint on my bumper while her car had a crease through the front and rear door.
Believe me, I am still kicking myself after both of these incidents.
Well Guys, I found out what it was. Apparently when I stopped quickly while backing up the IPR Solenoid came off (the nut must have loosened up or fell off). I did check out the Fuel Pump first followed by the DP, which were good to go.
Well, thanks for the quick replies. This just goes to show that the issue could be something other than the obvious and completely unrelated.
Injector Pressure Regulator. It is located on the back of the HPOP (which is the High Pressure Oil Pump). This is only applicable to the Diesel (in this case, the 7.3L).
Just an FYI, some people get a little touchy about asking questions that get asked a lot. Give the search function a try if it is something simple. I have seen some guys not respond very nicely. I don't want you to get the wrong idea when someone responds with "How about you try searching for it?". If you can't readily find the answer, then fire away. Also, welcome to FTE.
