I have been wanting to get a truck to tow my Jeep with for some time. I would like a 7.3 but a nice one is hard to find. I found a 06 F250 near me with 67k on it. Are the problems with the 6.0 really that bad? I do not plan to mod the engine at all, with the exception of maybe the exhaust. Should I avoid it? Whats everyone think? The truck is not at a ford dealer. Does it still have a warrenty and what is it? Thanks in advance.
Warranty is 5yr/100K miles from the inservice date which can be obtained with the VIN from a dealership or maybe one of our guys here. You can also obtain an OASIS which is a history of the trucks warranty work from the dealership with the VIN. I personally would have no fear of an 06 truck. By then MOST if not all of the bugs had been worked out of the motor and the fixes for any leftovers are well known now. 67K is just getting broken in good, however I would change every filter and fluid on the truck when I got my hands on it just for personal peace of mind. Be aware that the gauges, with exception of boost and tach, are nothing but idiot lights with needles. A set of gauges OR OBD2 gauge device is a great investment as is an exhaust.
it's all about the price you pay. and what you what to do with it. I think the look, ride and power of a 6.0 are very good. If you what a race car, then sorry to say don't get one. a cummins would be better. but you will need a paper sack to put over your head. I love ford and will only drive ford, but this truck has a lot of up keep. If you have some extra money, and some good wrenchin' skills, then you should be fine.
