On my 2001 F350 just today it's started having an issue shifting in to drive. If I drop it to 2nd and then back it seams to pick right up. I was noticing where the shift cable attaches to the tran theres this kind of slip joint thing could it have gotten bumped out of alignment and how would you put it back to the right place? - I no one know what I'm talking about i'll go get a picture.

I think you're on the right track. It's not uncommon for the shifter to get a bit sloppy and have a hard time finding the correct transmission gear. I'm not certain how to fix it though...
