I picked up my truck a couple months ago in trade. I've always LOVED the early Ford trucks. Mine is a 1954 F100. I have a ton of spare parts including a 1953 and a 1955 grille. However, I want a 1954 grille to match the year truck I am building. Is there anyone that makes an aftermarket grille for these trucks? It seems like the only part for these trucks that I cannot find a replacement part for... I have it stripped completely down to the frame and wont need a grille for a while, but I would sure like to know if there is a place to get one, or if I have to keep my eyes peeled and jump on one when the chance arrises.
The 54 grille is the least popular among the 53-56 F100 family but you shouldn't have a problem finding an OEM grille. Since the 56 grille is most popular, they are being repopped...to my knowledge none of the other years are at this time. I had a freshly chromed 54 grille a few years back that I swapped to a fellow club member who had a 54...as of this writing he has yet to install it on his truck. I could check with him to see if he still has it if you would like. I assume that you are using the 54 gravel pan/valence?
That's sort of what I assumed the answer would be, but not what I was hoping for. lol I currently have the 53' grille and valance on the truck. I know that the two are different and I will have to find a 54' grille and valance as well as the lights due to the slight differences. I can find everything new with the exception of the grille though. Can't spend any money through Christmas, so no need to bother him. Just exploring my options before I start trying to do all the body work. Thanks for your input though!!!
(Just as a side note, I think the 1954 is the best looking of the grille's. Thought about just using the 53', but I love the look of the 54'.) I do have another 53' cab with title and VIN that I hoped to build after I finished the 54'. So ideally, maybe I can find someone that needs a 55' grille to trade with... Here's to hoping.
I agree with you! I really like the 54 grille. It's the most unique of all the 53-56 grilles. Mine had a 56 on it when I bought it. I lucked out and found a pretty much mint grille with a rust free front valance for $100. The valance had some very minor damage.
I'm just happy to give my truck back it's fangs!
Just keep looking. They pop up for sale every once in a while.
Check ebay and flea markets. I, too, agree that the 54 grilles are the best looking, they are more 3-D, not flat. Anyway, not everyone agrees with us, so as guys replace the '54 grille with a repop 56 grille that puts the 54 grille on the market. Keep your eyes open. Also, do a search there are a lot of reputable dealers in used parts that have them. Good luck.
Thank you all SOOO much for your willingness to help out. Funny thing happened last night. A guy out of nowhere responded to my craigslist add and wanted to trade his 54' grille for my 55' grille. He had a 53', 54' and 56' grille that were in good condition that he was using as wall art. He was born in 55' though and wanted a 55' grille. Traded him straight up last night. Needless to say I'm stoked!!! Just had to post on here to get the karmic ball rolling I guess. Again, thank you all.
