charging problem

1996 f-350,7.3,4-door,4x4 alt does not charge right away when cold seems ok after warmed up.New alt does same thing.any ideas?

If you are going by the dash gauge , it is most likely from the glow plugs being on at cold start...

Ditto on Rick. about 2 minutes for the GP's and then maybe a few more to recharge.

charging problem

checked voltage at battery it showed the same as the gauge in truck.After a couple of minutes the batt voltage droped and the computer shut off the fuel.When it starts charging it runs fine.

wow, that doesn't sound good. I think you have other problems.
It runs for a few moments/minutes then shuts off? Does it start right back up? Do you have the CEL and or have you pulled any codes?
