Block Weight

Can anyone guess what a bare block weighs? I am hoping two guys can lift it off the stand and into the back of a truck! I don't want to have to rent a hoist just for that. Thanks.

Chad,

It's not bad with two guys. Rob (Blue Oval) and I moved my 352 bare block in and out of the pickup with no trouble. Once you get the intake manifold, heads and crank out of the block they are no longer the "eyepoppers" they started out as.

If you want a hand movin' that thing around, let me know.

Chad, I have read from a reputable source that it only weighs around 175 lbs. with the FT block only weighing 25 lbs. more. Since you guys will be picking it up, maybe you could set it on a bathroom scale and see for sure.

Glad to hear that it weighs a lot less at bare-weight than fully-loaded! Be careful what you offer, Spudco. I just might send out an e-mail to you to come by and help. Of course if you want, you can send me an e-mail with your phone number on it. I am hoping to be able to get it over to Rob very soon. Just waiting for another paycheck...or my income tax check. Whichever comes first!

My roomate and I pulled a complete shortblock 390 out of the back of my F100 with nothing but a handtruck. Granted, it's a heavy duty unit, and we strapped it down, but with him working the bottom, and me working the top, with a peice of carpet on the tailgate, it worked nicely.

Of course, I haven't started the body work on my truck yet, so it wasn't too terribly important if I added a few more scratches

Regardless, it isn't that bad. I can lug an empty block around by myself, to a degree, (and I'm built pretty skinny) so it should be no sweat for two!

Chad,

When you get a minute, check your private messages on this site. I sent you my phone #. Call me if you need help getting that block to Blue Oval. I can always make time to stop in there!

My Father-in-law and I lifted a complete 390 long block on a pallet off my truck carried it about 20ft. and set it down on the shop floor. However,it should be noted, we are both commercial fishermen in Alaska and are therefore by defintion completely nuts. We've also both had hernia surgery. Don't try this at home kids. seriously, I've tweaked my back just lifting an FE intake wrong. Err on the side of caution. two guys on a bare block shouldn'd be any problem tho.
