OK...it's been averaging around 10 degrees here (MN) lately and now my heater fan is acting up again. Here's the story, about a month ago I replaced my heater fan because it had a dead spot in it and would all together stop running. If you hit it with a hammer....it would temporarily start up again. So I replaced it. Now, the gremlin is back! After five minute or so, it stops again. If you turn the truck off and let it sit for awhile, it will run again upon restarting the truck...what...faulty wiring....fuse? HELP!!!
By the way...86 Bronco XLT..302 EFI....
Try tapping or wiggling the SWITCH on the control panel, and check the resistor plate mounted near the motor, but down & to the R. Sounds like you have a loose connection.
I did a little experimenting yesterday. Here again is what I found. When I shut the heater and fan switch off for a few minutes and then back on the heater fan kicked in again. Do you think the problem is in the swtich itself? Can you fix those things?
If you don't mind bending some 17-year-old cheap metal on the switch housing, you can try to repair it, but I'd expect a replacment switch to be cheap & easy to find.
You said it came on if you waited. What happens if you switch the fan off & IMMEDIATELY back on? Next time, don't switch it anywhere - just wiggle it SLIGHTLY and tap on it to see if it responds at all.
I've tried both, switching off and then immediatly on again does not work. Tapping....even kicking it does not work either....ok maybe not that harsh. I'm going to take it out maybe today to see what the deal is. I think that it is really strange that it works for so long and then turns itself off. What do you think of building my own relay switch. one speed......the other two or three aren't worth it anyway! ciao bro. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
Ok...was not going to spend alot of time with this issue...due to the fact I might freeze in the process! Here is waht I did. Disconnected the fan and ran my own toggle switch with an inline fuse (20amp). Now it has two speeds..on and off! Important thing is I now have heat that is under MY conrol. The bummer thing....It's starting to warm up!
