I'm wanting to transplant a 300 straight 6 with efi, and 5spd from an 89 f150, into my 66 swb with 240 3speed. I'm pretty sure everything should bolt up, but I'm worried about how difficult the efi would be. It would be nice to have efi but not sure if its worth the trouble. I would be getting the entire donor truck for 500, would like some advice if anyone has done this, or if its a bad combo. Thanks
While I have not done it in a 1966 F100 I have done it in a couple other vehicles and provided you are keeping the motor the same and are capable of wiring the ecu (will more than likely require a pin out) then it is not too bad.
I've also started an EFI swap in my '66 except I'm using a 351 out of an '89 van. I pulled the entire wiring harness and fuel system and currently am removing non-essential wiring from the harness to see if it can be made to work. There are several aftermarket EFI harnesses also available so you can search for one for your 300 if you need to. I'm going to try to adapt the factory harness so wish me luck!
Dong the swap is very easy, if you have some patience. Adding a couple of relays to the stock efi wiring and you can have it all together running. You need to add a high pressure pump and some modifications to stock tank. It would be of great use to have the whole donor vehicle to rob parts from to make for a factory looking conversion. On classicbroncos, there are a ton of guys that have done the 5.0 swap. That conversion is nearly identical as doing an F-series. There are complete writeups there and the fordfuelinjection website also. The 4.9 doesnt fit well in an early Bronco but the basic wiring is all the same.
