I recieved the oem kit today and it has a Body control Module (BCM)included in the kit and the instructions are saying that I need a vehicle communication module (VCM) and Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) software with appropriate hardware or equivalent scan tool. I'm a pretty capable mech and can do the install but this has stumped me.

Input is greatly appreciated on this problem...

Thanks for the link. It was just what I needed to know. Glad to know I'm not the only one scratching my head over a simple fog light install. My XL has the power group so I did'nt need to worry about the BCM or reprogramming. It was plug and play.

Does anyone know whether the kit will work without activating the auto lamp feature? If I install the headlight switch that comes with the kit and don't install the sensor or reflash the computer, will the headlights and foglights work manually?

2011 Fog lights, Whats the deal?

Ease of the OEM foglight depends on the Truck. My XL had already been programed with the power group and had the wiring. So all I did was put in the lights and a new headlight switch. Turned the ignition to the on position and all was good. The fogs will not work without the ignition turned on. On an XL without the power group, you will need to either toggle switch them or have a dealer do the install.

Hope this helps...

Thank you, both. I have an XLT but would like to avoid an auto headlight upgrade. Prefer to turn them on and off myself.

You can get the swith for headlights w/ fog light feature. You don't need to have the sensor activated switch. Still manual but with the fog light switch integrated. XLT should be plug and play..
