As a 2000 EX owner with the piddly little 5.4L V8, I'm wondering what kind of mileage out on the road, and towing your V10 gets. <?> IF I run premium fuel, I 'can' get 16 to 17 if I turn the A/C off and drive under 60. IF I drive 'normal', I can get 14.5 to 15 maybe.... then when I tow a camper (toy hauler), IF I'm lucky, I get 8.x mpg.

I've always wondered how much better or worse the V10 was from my 5.4L V8. Thanks.

i can tell you that between my 5.4 V8 expedition and my 6.8 V10 excursion the overall average is pretty much the same. its about 10mpg city, allthough i think the lighter expy will do better then 12-14mpg highway of the V10. but its well worth the extra passing power IMO

re pricing.... You are correct, prices DO go up when there's no more of something... OR when fuel drops
but will caution that KBB and Edmunds basically make up their numbers to sell magaines.....

Only REAL value is what you can sell it for.... look in the paper and see what the going rate is... or better yet, use the car dealers used car guide - the black book...

Ed Wallace, Ed Wallace's Inside Automotive, says this all the time on his Sat morning car show here in DFW...

oh - and you can get the black book in itunes or the android market for your smartphone...
iirc it was 1.99 and uses conneted services to price - have fun !

^ I agree 100%. I use Ebay for pricing out items or vehicles. KBB and edmonds prices have never been on actual sale prices. I just find it interesting that they are going up.

Story: When I was selling my 96 F250 this summer I had more than a few people send me links to KBB or Edmonds showing me what my truck should be worth (I was asking 9Kish). One woman sent me a link for edmonds with a price of like 3400, I LOLed. When I was looking threw the edmonds link she used a F150 with all kinds of wrong stuff. Lots of people buy and sell according to what "info" they are given.

I tell everyone if they want to find out what pretty much anything is worth just check ebay ended auctions. REAL pricing.

I had a nice expy and traded it for the ex to get the towing capacity and the extra cargo room. A also figured that i would be able to sell the ex for more money and faster since there were only 2 or 3 listed in memphis and they all had 150 k plus miles and mine only has 118k. THere were 25 or more expys with like miles and options as mine so the price was driven way down. I think there will always be a demand for these even wtih high gas prices because if you have a large family and want to tow what else are you gonna buy.

There are mixed signals to me. There sure seem to be a LOT of 4x4s
but not so many 2wd for sale. With the improved mpg of the PSDs vs. v8/v10
I would say the PSD Ex will fare pretty well. Diesel costs 10% (or less) more than
gas, but when I can go 700+ miles on 41 gallons of fuel I'm happy whatever the
price of fuel - when I can haul the whole family + stuff anywhere.

On the 1 hand many new Ex are now for sale with < 68K around the country and they are
asking 26k to 30k depending upon year/eng/mileage. (almost all are PSD, some are even 7.3l)

Then again, some of the same Ex I looked @ when buying last Oct
are still for sale (albeit about 1k less than they asked then).
But, many others have sold (or been traded) and been replaced
with more expensive Ex for sale now.

I went shopping for mine when gas was $4.10/gal... paid 7k for a one owner loaded limited, with 89k miles on it. It's worth like 10 something now, almost 3 years later, with another 36k miles on it... Only vehicle I've had that ever appraised in value
