Today I took my F350 6.0L to work, when I got there I noticed a small clutch plate on the ground in front of the truck. I picked it up, it was hot... so it had just fallen off, strange. I am really lucky this plate didn't fall of on the freeway, it could have killed someone.
My question is will the pulley stay intact for another week of use until I can get it into the shop or will the whole AC compressor disintegrate, along with the front of the 6.0L motor.
Good question, does the A/C compressor make a lot of noise when not in use?
I'd suggest that it's probably fine but I am not sure how the clutch operates. I assume, though, that you have a regular nut holding the pulley on just like all the other ones.
I don't know where the AC compressor is located on the 6.0, but if it is easy to get to you should be able to swap it out in about 15 minutes. I know on my 7.3l it is super easy.
If you already lost one piece of it...you will more than likely lose another. Just replace it and be done. It would be a good time to replace your belt too if you've got some miles on it.
